History

Triathlon steel is probably the most unique sporting event in the most beautiful part of Slovenia. It is one of the most picturesque, not only the most difficult for the most durable. It is also among the oldest, with a long tradition, with only a few interruptions. Steelman always carry special stories.

STEEL - the participation of individuals stopped at  year 2017 number 74. The lowest figure is from 1996, when 53 participants were on the old route. The record among individuals is from 2008, when there were 133 participants in the Steelman, and in the period 2006-2012 it is always over 118. There are also 31 relays to be added. There are 177 participants in total.

STEELWOMAN - the phenomenon of women's sport is also reflected in steelman, as the courage, will and motivation for such a demanding test finds a high percentage of participation, this year in total (5/74).

UNINTERRUPTED - an uninterrupted series on the winning stage continues Aleš Udovič (2009-2017). He is unbeatable in this category. It now has four third and five second places. Marjan Zupančič was on stage for eight years in a row (1991-1999). Zdravko Mitric six years in a row (2005-2010).

WHY STEEL - Tone Fornezzi Tof from the Sunday Diary has drawn the idea from New Zealand, a legend of unusual triathlon, a combination of cycling, kayaking and running, while at the same time in the United States, "Ironman" in Hawaii was gaining momentum and right after his merit was named Bohinj's triathlon "Steel".

30 - Just before the annual triathlon(2016), the Triathlon Association of Slovenia celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of the official establishment. It was founded in Bohinj.

The history of the Slovenian Triathlon began to be written in Bohinj. The first president of the triathlon federation was Alojz Hvala. The first triathlon was conducted on the last Saturday in August 1984. Once, in the 1987, the "fools" forced themselves even to Kredarica mountain hut.

20 - The first twenty steel triathlons were done only by long years organisor Karel Medvescek - Korl, Metod Močnik did 24 and Srečko Križnič 20 and  they are so far in the club "twenty".

ORGANIZERS - "We are aware that every competitor is the king and that the organizers are here for the competitors, and not the other way around," are the meaningful words of Karl Medvescek, the famous Bohin'c, to whom the full merit goes, that the triathlon has been preserved in such a splendor, since it has been organized for more than 20 years. "Without the winners this triathlon, it would not be what it is," Korl remarked many years ago. The legacy is in the hands of Jure Sodja.

PEAK - Studorski preval, 1892 meters high, is the highest test point and the second highest point among the best known Slovenian endurance tests.
